Waking Up in the Clouds
I woke up in the clouds this morning and what could have been a wonderful mystical experience became something quite less. It was a bit of a shock.
Everywhere was white and dense. I felt as if I had been transported to a different planet. How beautiful it was as well as scary. I have been in fogs before and white outs in snowstorms but this was complete dense white nothingness. All of those other experiences had been when I had had my feet on the ground. This was from the 29th floor and I must say it had a very eerie feeling to it.
I had left the drapes open on the wall to wall windows so I could be connected to the sky while I slept. When I woke up I immediately looked out and was met by the dense white nothingness. I couldn’t see the ground below or the sky above. My two grounding points were gone. I was quite unearthed.
I wondered if this was what pilots talk about when they are in the clouds and loose their sense of direction and have to use their instruments. I had often thought about it when flying and would try to close my eyes and sense where gravity was pulling on my body. I believed that once I felt it I would be able to sense what was up and down. I couldn’t understand how someone could not sense it. How could they loose their sense of space? It had always confused me. Now however I completely understood. The cloud was so dense and thick and white it was disorienting. And even from my bed across the room I was feeling confused. Thank God I wasn’t required to make any decisions about up or down. It took a while to get myself re-oriented and back to so called normal. It was a very uneasy experience to say the least.
Clouds, what joy they can bring us. The many hours we spend watching them float by on their journeys across the sky. How different they are, some billowy, some feathery and whispy while others are dense, heavy and full of rain. Some of my favorites are the storm clouds. They are full of wind and lightning and the wonderful loud rolling thunder that shakes the ground with its might. These clouds are not for whimsical cloud watching, oh no, they demand attention as they cleanse the air and bring moisture to the land. They exude power. How wonderful and diverse clouds are. What beauty they provide.
I will leave my drapes open again tonight and I hope to awake in the clouds tomorrow and this time be able to experience the more mystical mystery of it.
